Only five more days until St. Patricks Day; time to put on some green, talk in an Irish accent and seek out some of those hidden treasures. According to an article on Car.com, “Each year, the green beer often flows too freely for revelers, making it a dangerous time to drive: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 276 people died in drunken driving crashes over St. Patrick’s Day weekends from 2009 to 2013.” So, what can you do to insure your safety and the safety of those around you?
- Plan ahead: Once you are drinking it tends to be too late to choose a designated driver, or think about your transportation. Make sure you have a ride before going out.
- Be a good friend: Have a couple of designated drivers, or friends, to look out to make sure no one is driving while under the influence, or leaving with someone who is.
- Take public transportation: Consider taking a taxi, or other public transportation. That way if you decide to drink, or drink more you can stay and not worry about being towed, or perhaps getting into your car and driving while impaired.
When it comes to drinking and driving you can really never be too safe. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says, “a sober driver will be your luckiest charm this St. Patrick’s Day.”
